Guide to Family Photography Prep
WHAT TO EXPECT
Your session is designed to feel relaxed, effortless, and genuinely enjoyable. There’s no pressure for perfection—just connection. I’ll guide you every step of the way so you never feel unsure of what to do, while still allowing space for natural moments to unfold.
Think of it less like a photoshoot, and more like time intentionally spent together—with beautiful images as the result.
WHAT TO WEAR
Wardrobe plays a huge role in the overall feel of your images.
Stick to soft neutrals and earthy tones (creams, beiges, warm browns, muted greens)
Avoid bright colours, bold logos, and busy patterns
Choose pieces that move naturally (flowy dresses, soft knits, layered textures)
Coordinate—don’t match
For a more elevated look, opt for:
Linen, cotton, or textured fabrics
Simple, timeless silhouettes
Barefoot or minimal footwear when possible
If you’re unsure, I’m always happy to help style your session.
FOR THE KIDS
The best moments happen when children feel comfortable and free to be themselves.
Let go of expectations—perfection isn’t the goal
Bring a small, neutral snack if needed
Avoid pressure (“say cheese”)—I’ll guide them naturally
I’ll gently direct when needed, but most of the magic comes from play, movement, and connection.
LOCATION & LIGHT
Timing is everything.
Outdoor sessions are scheduled during golden hour—that soft, warm light just before sunset that creates the glow you see in my work.
If your session is in-studio:
Expect a clean, minimal setup
Soft, flattering light
A calm, controlled environment
HAIR & MAKEUP
Keep things natural, polished, and true to you.
Soft waves, loose styles, or clean pulled-back looks
Neutral, glowing makeup (slightly more defined than everyday)
Avoid heavy contouring or trendy looks that may not age well
The goal is timeless, not trendy.
CONNECTION OVER PERFECTION
The most meaningful images come from how you interact—not how you pose.
Hold your children close
Laugh, move, and be present
Don’t worry about the camera
I’ll guide you into moments that feel natural and effortless.
You don’t need to have it all figured out—that’s what I’m here for.
Your only job is to show up, be present, and trust the process. I’ll take care of the rest.
Let’s create something timeless together. ✨
