There is something about family photography at Burlington Beach that makes it perfect for families who want their photographs to feel natural, connected and completely like them.

For this family of five lifestyle photography session in Burlington, Ontario, we kept things relaxed and let the evening unfold with plenty of movement, playing, cuddling and time together along the shoreline.

The result was a gallery filled with exactly what I want my family sessions to capture: connection, happiness and the little interactions that make each family unique.

Burlington Beach is one of my favourite locations for outdoor family photography in Burlington because it gives us so much variety without needing to travel between locations.

The sand and shoreline create a beautiful, neutral backdrop while Lake Ontario brings movement and softness to the photographs. Most importantly, the beach gives kids room to actually be kids.

For this family of five, that meant playing together, walking along the water, snuggling close and letting the kids move rather than expecting everyone to stand perfectly still and smile at the camera.

Those are often the moments that create my favourite photographs.

Before the session, we coordinated their family's outfits over email, making sure the colours and pieces complemented one another as well as the natural tones of Burlington Beach.

You don't need to buy an entirely new wardrobe or have everyone perfectly matching for beautiful family photographs.

In fact, I prefer when families coordinate rather than match.

Choosing complementary colours, mixing subtle textures and making sure everyone's clothing feels cohesive allows each person's personality to come through while giving the final gallery a polished look.
