Family Photography at Saint Eden Studio in Burlington, Ontario

A family of five photographed at Saint Eden Studio in Burlington, Ontario by Fyvie Studios after five years of family sessions together. Warm, candid Burlington family photography.

One of the most meaningful parts of being a family photographer in Burlington is getting to photograph the same families year after year. I’ve had the privilege of working with this beautiful family of five for five years now, watching their kids grow and documenting so many different seasons of their family along the way.

For their latest session, we switched things up and headed indoors to Saint Eden Studio in Burlington, Ontario for a relaxed, cozy family photoshoot.

Five Years of Photographing This Family

There’s something really special that happens when a family comes back year after year.

The kids already know me, everyone knows what to expect, and that initial awkwardness in front of the camera disappears pretty quickly. Instead of starting from scratch, it feels a little more like catching up while creating their next set of family memories.

And after five years, I can confidently say that the goal has never been perfection.

Kids grow, personalities change and every year brings a completely different dynamic. That's exactly what I want their photographs to show.

A Family of Five at Saint Eden Studio

For this year's session, Saint Eden Studio in Burlington gave us a beautiful indoor setting with soft natural light and a clean, neutral backdrop.

Studio family photography doesn't have to mean sitting in a row and smiling at the camera.

Especially with three kids!

We kept everyone moving with simple prompts, cuddles, games and lots of interaction. I always photograph the traditional everyone-looking-at-the-camera portrait too, but some of my favourite images are usually the ones immediately before or after it—the laugh, the sibling interaction, the little hand reaching for Mom or the moment when everyone forgets they're having their photograph taken.

Those are the photographs that feel like real family life.

What to Wear for an Indoor Family Photoshoot

One of the advantages of a neutral photography studio is that wardrobe can stay simple.

For indoor family sessions, I recommend coordinating rather than matching. Creams, warm browns, denim, soft neutrals and earthy tones photograph beautifully and work especially well with my warm editing style.

Adding different textures through knits, denim or layered fabrics also gives photographs some dimension without distracting from the people in them.

Most importantly, everyone should still feel like themselves.

What If Your Kids Don't Cooperate?

This is probably one of the biggest concerns parents have before booking family photos.

Your kids do not need to cooperate perfectly for us to create beautiful photographs.

I don't expect young children to sit still and smile on command for an entire session. Instead, I work with their energy. We move, play, take breaks and change things up when they're losing interest.

Sometimes the moments parents think are going completely off the rails end up creating some of their favourite photographs.

Your job isn't to make your children perform for the camera. Just come ready to love on them and I'll take care of the rest.

Why Photograph Your Family Every Year?

Five years of photographing this family means they now have something pretty incredible: a visual history of their children growing up.

Year to year, the changes can seem small. But put those galleries beside each other and suddenly you see just how much has changed.

The toddler isn't a toddler anymore. Someone has lost their baby teeth. Little personalities have become big ones. The way a child fits into Mom or Dad's arms changes.

Family photographs aren't only about what your family looks like today.

They're about preserving a season you don't realize you're going to miss until it's already changed.

Burlington, Ontario Family Photography

Whether we're photographing outdoors at one of my favourite Burlington locations, at my exclusive Estate Collection property, or keeping things cozy with an indoor studio session, my approach to family photography stays the same.

I want your gallery to feel warm, authentic and elevated without feeling overly posed.

We'll get the beautiful family portrait for the wall, but we'll also capture the belly laughs, cuddles, sibling chaos and little interactions that make your family yours.

To this family: thank you for continuing to trust me with these memories for the past five years. Getting to watch your family grow from behind my camera has been such a privilege. 🤎

If you're looking for a family photographer in Burlington, Ontario, Fyvie Studios offers family photography throughout Burlington and surrounding areas, with both outdoor and indoor studio options available.

Because your family doesn't have to be perfectly posed to be worth remembering exactly as you are right now.
